Chelsea Make Fastest Ever Premier League 2-0 Start Against Bournemouth
Chelsea recorded the fastest 2-0 start in their Premier League history after Jordan Henderson and Morgan Rogers struck inside 2 minutes 29 seconds against Bournemouth.
Henderson opened the scoring in the second minute, the experienced summer arrival driving in a powerful finish. He then played a decisive role in Chelsea’s next attack, with Rogers scoring barely a minute later to put Xabi Alonso’s side two goals ahead before the match had settled.
The 2:29 double makes Chelsea only the third club to establish a two-goal Premier League lead so quickly. Leicester City did it against Derby County in April 1998, while Luton Town matched the feat against Brighton in January 2024.
Henderson’s contribution was also among the quickest individual goal-and-assist combinations in league history. Only Emile Heskey, against Derby in April 1998, had both scored and set up a goal earlier in a Premier League game.
Rogers has become central to Chelsea’s rapid starts under Alonso. The England international has now scored three of the Blues’ six league goals registered within the opening seven minutes this season.
Alonso has placed particular emphasis on the opening stages since taking charge at Stamford Bridge, and the Bournemouth burst offered the clearest evidence yet. Chelsea had never previously reached a 2-0 Premier League advantage as early as they did after 2 minutes and 29 seconds.
