Cristiano Ronaldo Set to Start for Al-Nassr Against Al-Diriyah
Cristiano Ronaldo is available to start for Al-Nassr against Al-Diriyah on Friday after returning to Riyadh in “good physical and mental shape”, head coach Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.
Ronaldo back in Al-Nassr contention
The 41-year-old forward has rejoined the Saudi Pro League champions ahead of matchday eight and is in the frame to lead the attack at home to Al-Diriyah.
Postecoglou declined to address the captain’s earlier exit from Portugal duty or reports of a disagreement involving Portugal coach Jorge Jesus. The Australian said club coaches should not comment on matters involving national teams.
For Al-Nassr, the key point is Ronaldo’s readiness as they begin a demanding spell across domestic and continental competition. He currently has 979 career goals and is closing in on the 1,000-goal landmark.
Fitness boost before Friday fixture
Joao Felix has also returned to full training in Riyadh, handing the coaching staff another attacking option before the league resumes.
- Ronaldo is fit and immediately available for selection.
- Joao Felix has completed his return to full training.
- Saudi international players are still due back after winning the Arabian Gulf Cup.
- Saudi Arabia beat the United Arab Emirates 2-0 in Wednesday’s final.
Postecoglou is waiting to have his entire group together again before Al-Nassr enter a congested run of fixtures.
Title pressure remains on Al-Nassr
Al-Nassr go into the Al-Diriyah match two points behind the Saudi Pro League summit. Victory would keep the reigning champions in close contact with leaders Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad.
