UEFA Bans Lens Fans From Leipzig and Liverpool Away Matches
Lens supporters will be barred from buying away tickets for Champions League trips to Leipzig and Liverpool after UEFA confirmed a two-match sanction on Tuesday.
UEFA disciplinary decision
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Away-ticket ban | Leipzig, November 24; Liverpool, January 27 |
| Fine | €80,000 ($89,000) |
| Further sanction | One additional away-game ban suspended for two years |
The punishment follows crowd trouble during Lens’ 3-0 Champions League defeat at Club Brugge last week. Dozens of flares were lit, with some thrown towards opposing fans and onto the pitch, leading to a brief stoppage.
UEFA’s appeals body ruled that Lens cannot sell tickets to their fans for the two upcoming European away fixtures. The club were also fined over pyrotechnics being lit and thrown, as well as damage caused at the Brugge match.
Lens had already been placed on UEFA probation after supporters used flares and fireworks during an earlier Champions League match against Slavia Prague in September.
The suspended third-match ban will remain hanging over the French club for the next two years. Any further disciplinary breach could place another European away allocation at risk.
