A major side quest for Cyberpunk 2077—“Chippin’ In” (quest name: “Gdzie jest Johnny?”)—puts you on a direct trail through the Afterlife club, a day’s wait for Rogue, an infiltration of Maelstrom docks, and a confrontation aboard the Ebunike ship. The walkthrough centers on how to trigger the quest after the campaign “point of no return,” how to handle the Grayson interrogation outcome, and how that decision directly affects access to Johnny Silverhand’s Porsche 911 Turbo.

Quick facts

  • The quest “Chippin’ In” is added to your journal after completing two story quests that occur right before the “point of no return.”
  • You must meet Rogue in the Afterlife club in Little China (Watson), then agree to let Johnny temporarily take control of V’s body.
  • Rogue requires you to wait one in-game day by phone before the docks mission begins.
  • The infiltration objective is Dataterm, located in a building to the right of the docks entrance.
  • On the Ebunike you must defeat Grayson, who will not die during the fight; you then choose to kill him or spare him.
  • If you spare Grayson, you receive a access card that unlocks a container holding a free Porsche 911 Turbo that you can keep permanently in your garage.

How to unlock “Chippin’ In”

“Chippin’ In” becomes available automatically after you finish two quests that come immediately before the campaign’s “point of no return.” Those prerequisite quests are “Search and Destroy” (Mieszkanie nr 303), tied to a meeting with Hanako Arasaka arranged by Takemura, and “Tapeworm” (Metamorfozy), which runs through the game via planned story moments involving conversations with Johnny about Relic.

Once both are completed, the quest is added to your journal, and you can proceed toward the Afterlife meeting with Rogue.

Afterlife meeting and Johnny takeover

To start, you need to meet Rogue at the Afterlife club located in Little China within Watson. After entering, you have to find Johnny and agree to take the pill that allows Johnny to temporarily take control of V’s body.

During the resulting “scene overview,” you can behave freely—order drinks, select any pill offered by the “Stranger,” attack guards, or choose different dialogue options. The walkthrough notes that these choices do not change what happens later within this quest segment.

Rogue’s call, then the docks

After the scene, V regains consciousness in a Pacifica apartment and a conversation with Rogue starts. The meeting is described as linear, after which another conversation with Johnny begins—this one focused on finding Grayson.

You then have to wait one day for Rogue’s phone call. If you want to move faster, you can use the game’s time-skip tools or rest in V’s apartment. When Rogue contacts you, she explains that the Maelstrom gang controls the docks, and you return to Afterlife to confirm readiness before heading out.

Infiltrating the Maelstrom docks

Once you leave Afterlife, you open Claire’s car trunk and retrieve a replica of Johnny’s Silverhand jacket, which V automatically puts on. From there, you travel to the docks in Northside (Watson), where the game skips to evening and lets you hear the plan or confirm immediately.

Stealth is not mandatory, but the walkthrough warns that if you’re detected, a large group of Maelstrom fighters will respond—and that fights may become difficult if your experience level is too low.

If you want to stay hidden, begin by following Rogue’s lead to bypass guards at the docks entrance. The target area centers on Dataterm, a computer positioned in a building to the right of the docks entrance.

The walkthrough emphasizes that even if you are noticed, you won’t fail any mission objectives. Still, entry routes can vary: some are easier but may require higher attribute investment (for example, technical abilities), while other doors are not secured.

Dataterm and the Ebunike boarding

At Dataterm you must interact and read a specific message that points the operation toward the Ebunike ship docked at the docks. Reading other emails and checking saved files on the computer are optional.

To reach the ship, you cross gangplanks to board the Ebunike. Sneaking aboard is again possible but not required; the walkthrough suggests it should still be available even if you already fought during the docks segment because the two areas are separated.

Defeating Grayson (and choosing what happens next)

On Ebunike, Smasher is not present, but you must confront Grayson. The walkthrough states that the fight tactic is flexible: you can open with direct gunfire or surprise him with a strong opening attack such as a sniper shot. You should also remove regular enemies found aboard.

Crucially, Grayson will not die during the fight. The goal is to defeat him so you can interrogate him. After that, you are told to take Grayson’s iconic pistol, the one associated with Johnny.

During the interrogation, you get to choose the final outcome: you can either kill Grayson or spare him. The walkthrough specifies that the choice is determined by the final selection shown in the guide.

Reward: the free Porsche 911 Turbo

If you spare Grayson, you receive an access card and information about a valuable item stored inside a container. You can also obtain the access card by searching Grayson’s body if you killed him, though the guide says the application of the card is less obvious in that case.

With the access card, you go to a ladder area that leads to a metal balcony. From there, you use a crane mechanism to lower the container. When you reach it, you open the container using the card.

Inside is a free Porsche 911 Turbo, featuring a Samurai livery and previously owned by Johnny Silverhand. The walkthrough states you should enter the vehicle to add it permanently to your garage.

Finally, the guide warns that missing the moment to open the container means you lose the chance to obtain the Porsche 911, and it cannot be found later or purchased afterward.

Johnny’s grave on the Badlands oil fields

After the ship sequence, you can travel to the Badlands oil fields to the marker where Johnny’s body was meant to be buried. The walkthrough notes that you can use any vehicle for the trip; it does not have to be the Porsche you obtained from the container.

At the grave, you talk with Johnny. It also describes this as a relationship choice: you can leave a symbol at the site, and the walkthrough advises avoiding offensive or aggressive dialogue choices. It recommends leaving a “positive” inscription on the symbolic gravestone and selecting friendly options during Johnny’s dialogue, so the next related quest—“In the Old Cinema”—can be unlocked.

If you handle the scene correctly, Johnny asks V to invite Rogue on a date on his behalf, but the guide clarifies that this invitation becomes part of the subsequent quest “In the Old Cinema.”
