The 35-year-old put the hosts ahead inside 10 minutes before producing the standout moment of the night on the hour. De Bruyne bent a superb shot from distance into the top corner for his 201st senior career goal.

Belgium had already established command in midfield, with their captain directing play and setting the tempo throughout. Lukaku then added the final goal in the closing stages to seal a convincing home result.

De Bruyne said Belgium’s recent form had given the squad confidence after a run of three positive displays. He also welcomed the tactical system implemented by Mark van Bommel, saying it suits his game.

“It feels great,” De Bruyne said. “I was already in good form and we have now played three good games. This way of playing fits me well. We have started strongly and want to continue progressing.”

The Napoli player said his focus is not solely on his goal return, stressing that he wants to set the example for Belgium’s younger players. “I try to show the younger players the way, and they take it on board,” he said. “I still feel I have something to offer. The most important thing is that I am enjoying it.”

Belgium will now look to sustain their momentum and cut into France’s lead at the top of the section in the next round of international fixtures. Turkey, meanwhile, remain bottom after three matches without a point.
