Tielemans praises Belgium’s 3-0 Nations League win over Turkey
Belgium captain Youri Tielemans hailed a 3-0 UEFA Nations League victory over Turkey after Kevin De Bruyne struck twice and Romelu Lukaku added a late header at the Maurice Dufrasne Stadium in Liege.
The win takes Belgium to six points in Group A and keeps them on the heels of leaders France, while Turkey stay bottom without a point. Belgium’s next Nations League fixtures will offer the chance to turn that pressure into a push for top spot.
Tielemans controlled much of an open contest alongside De Bruyne, with Belgium repeatedly finding room through the middle as Turkey committed players forward and left space behind their press. The hosts turned those openings into a commanding result, although they could have won by more.
Dodi Lukebakio hit the woodwork twice before Lukaku completed the scoring with a composed header. Belgium’s defensive organisation also held firm, restricting Turkey to possession without a breakthrough.
“The target was to win at home,” Tielemans said. “It was a very open match and we took the chances we had, but we could have scored more. They gave us plenty of room in midfield because of how openly they played. We have to choose better options in the final third.”
Belgium target France
The Manchester United midfielder said Belgium must sharpen their decisions around the box despite the three-goal margin. He and De Bruyne consistently helped the home side bypass Turkey’s pressure, creating transition attacks and exploiting the visitors’ high line.
Belgium now move on with momentum and a clear objective: continue winning and close the gap on France. Turkey, meanwhile, must find their first Group A points in the next round of matches.
