A recently canceled survival horror entry in the Dying Light universe is now moving into refunds for players who hoped to experience it on last-generation systems. While the game won’t be coming to older consoles, Techland says eligible customers can reclaim their purchase money for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

Techland confirmed via a recent social media update that Dying Light: The Beast will not release on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The title is a 2025 survival horror experience set within the Dying Light setting, and it was initially announced for the previous generation of consoles.

The decision is tied to the game’s technical requirements. Techland stated that the older hardware “simply cannot provide” the level of performance the project needs, framing the cancellation as a result of the game’s advanced production needs rather than a change in plans for current-gen players.

Even with the PS4 and Xbox One versions canceled, the developer says refunds are available to people who were expecting to play on those platforms. The update does not spell out the exact refund path, but it suggests that using the PlayStation or Xbox digital storefront process may be the most direct option for now.

In the message, Techland addressed the disappointment directly: “We know many of you were looking forward to playing on PS4 or Xbox One, and we are truly sorry for the disappointment this causes. Anyone who was expecting to play on either platform will be eligible for a refund.”

Techland also reiterated that it wasn’t possible to bring the game to older systems due to performance constraints. In terms of availability, the project will remain planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with no mention of additional last-gen releases.

Techland concluded that, after considering the situation, it made the difficult call to stop the release on the older consoles. It added that Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware, emphasizing that the open-world scope is designed around that performance baseline.
