Elden Ring Update 1.17 Live for Tarnished Edition

Elden Ring has received a new update, moving the game to version 1.17 and setting the stage for the upcoming release of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. The patch is live on all platforms and includes both preparation for the new packaged edition and a set of balance adjustments, quality-of-life changes, and bug fixes.

What update 1.17 changes in Elden Ring

The headline addition in version 1.17 is support for the Tarnished Pack, a DLC that is sold separately and will debut on August 28. The new content adds two extra starting classes and introduces new weapons. Players will also receive three cosmetic variants for the Struggles steed appearance. In addition to the DLC-related support, the update adds one new NPC invasion event in Caelid and another in Leyndell.

On the balance side, FromSoftware strengthened several items already in the game. Among the improvements are Rellana’s Double Blades and certain perfumery options. The patch also enhances how parrying works overall, and it changes the Storm Wall skill so that it no longer consumes mana. Several spells were buffed as well, including Meteorite, which gains increased power and a reduced cast time. Selected incantations were also strengthened.

There are also PvP-focused tweaks. The update additionally addresses issues related to large katanas, including an interaction that previously allowed players to parry those katanas’ jump attacks. On PC specifically, the update includes fixes for mouse input during dialogue moments, along with a reset of keyboard and mouse settings.

Tarnished Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 tomorrow

While update 1.17 is now available everywhere, the bigger timing is the release of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2. The bundled edition releases the next day and includes the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree, and the Tarnished Pack content referenced in version 1.17. Early reviews for the Switch 2 release have already been published, and the edition scored 91 out of 100 on Metacritic.

Reviewers report that the experience targets stable 30 frames per second, with only occasional technical issues such as brief instances of objects loading into view. Even with those minor problems, the overall takeaway is that Tarnished Edition is performing well enough to make the game a strong option for Switch 2 owners.
