Fabregas Takes Blame as Como’s Unbeaten Run Ends at Frosinone
Como’s unbeaten league run is over after a 2-0 defeat at Frosinone, with Cesc Fabregas accepting responsibility for his side’s failure to deal with the hosts’ approach.
Giacomo Calo and Giorgi Kvernadze scored before half-time at the Stadio Benito Stirpe, condemning Como to their first Serie A loss and dropping them to eighth place. Victory would have taken the Lombardy club level on points with joint leaders Roma and Inter.
Quick facts
- Frosinone beat Como 2-0 at the Stadio Benito Stirpe.
- Giacomo Calo and Giorgi Kvernadze struck in the first half.
- Como conceded twice before the break for only the fourth time in Serie A.
- Frosinone moved onto 10 points, their best-ever return from five top-flight matches.
- Como host Roma on October 11 after the international break.
Fabregas felt his team still created enough clear openings to win comfortably, but goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani repeatedly denied them. The Como coach said he had warned his players about Frosinone before kick-off but had not made the message land strongly enough.
“I would not have been surprised if we had won 4-1, because Palmisani made many saves,” Fabregas said. “But Frosinone played the match they wanted, and we were not at their level.”
The Spaniard said Como lacked control despite producing four scoring chances. He also credited Frosinone for executing their plan with discipline and for finding ways to hurt his side.
Fabregas described it as Como’s first genuinely poor performance for five months, since their Coppa Italia semi-final defeat to Inter. “We have to talk about a great Frosinone team today,” he said. “They deserve it. It was a Frosinone masterpiece.”
The international break now gives Como time to reset their defensive organisation before Roma visit the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on October 11. The match offers an immediate chance to respond against one of the early pace-setters as Fabregas’ side aim to remain in the fight near the top four.
