Getafe Confirm Talks With Sergio Ramos’ Brother Over Free Transfer
Getafe president Ángel Torres has confirmed direct talks with René Ramos over a possible move for Sergio Ramos, with the 40-year-old free agent under consideration for a La Liga return.
Key takeaways
- Torres says Getafe have monitored the former Spain captain’s situation for some time.
- Ramos has been unattached since leaving Monterrey at the end of 2025.
- José Bordalás already has six centre-backs available and wants wide options first.
- Any January business could change the picture if Getafe add another central defender.
- Ramos could reunite with former Real Madrid team-mate Dani Carvajal at the Coliseum.
Getafe keep Ramos option alive
Torres has made clear that a deal is possible but not currently the club’s leading transfer objective. Getafe are well supplied in central defence, while Bordalás is pressing for natural wingers to give his squad more width.
The president said the Ramos possibility had not emerged suddenly and remained an issue the club had been working on. He indicated that the move could develop now, but also suggested it may be revisited in January, particularly if Getafe bring in another centre-back.
Ramos last played for Monterrey in December 2025, appearing in the 3-2 Apertura semi-final defeat to Toluca. He departed the Mexican club at the end of that year and is seeking a final high-level challenge. A switch to Getafe would keep the former Sevilla, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Spain defender in his home country and in one of Europe’s major leagues.
Carvajal reunion would add experience
Getafe have already completed the striking signing of Carvajal, who chose to stay in Madrid rather than move abroad. The right-back has agreed a contract through to summer 2027 and would be reunited with Ramos, his former Real Madrid captain and a fellow multiple Champions League winner.
A Ramos-Carvajal pairing would give Bordalás substantial leadership and elite-level experience, although Getafe would need the financial terms to work. Carvajal is reported to have accepted a pay reduction of as much as 90 per cent to join the club.
Carvajal said his decision was driven by passion rather than money, adding that Getafe fulfilled the requirements for his family. Ramos may need to accept a similarly reduced package if he is to make the move to the Coliseum.
