Ground Zero Hero Launches: Rowan Edmondson’s Roguelite Horde-Slayer in a Radioactive Wasteland
Ground Zero Hero is now available, dropping players into a post-apocalyptic horde-slaying loop built around rapid runs, bizarre mutations, and an intentionally irreverent sense of humor. Developed by Rowan Edmondson, the horde-survival roguelite tasks you with pushing deeper into a radioactive wasteland as you absorb enemy remains to unlock new powers and keep mowing through swarms of mutant foes.

Mutation-driven progression and cartoon-dark tone
Players take on the role of Radboy, navigating the wasteland while using a core mechanic tied to progression: absorbing radioactive “entrails” from defeated enemies. These mutations unlock abilities that change how you fight, helping you survive increasingly large mutant hordes.
Combat is framed around fighting waves with a collection of strange weaponry, turning each run into a mix of experimentation and survival. Visually, the game leans into a distinctive hand-drawn style that evokes 1990s cartoons, paired with black comedy throughout the experience.
What the developer is aiming for
The project is described as a “dopamine-loaded” game, with a clear focus on delivering unfiltered fun rather than forcing compromises—an approach that matches its rogue-like structure and relentless horde pressure.
Where to start
If you want to test the gameplay before committing, there’s a free demo on Steam. PlayStation Plus Premium members can also try a one-hour version on PlayStation. Beyond home platforms, Ground Zero Hero is additionally available through Antstream Arcade and on Polycade machines.
