GTA Modder Dryxio Unveils Portal Hub Linking Liberty City, Vice City, San Andreas

One GTA modder has built a real-time “portal hub” that stitches together Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas—letting you walk through windows to fully switch worlds, shoot across them, and see each game’s traffic, physics, and NPC behavior update live.

A portal hub that runs three GTA worlds at once

Created by modder “Dryxio,” the setup centers on three large, square windows placed in the middle of Grove Street. Each window shows a live view into a different part of the PS2-era trilogy, and players can either shoot directly into the windows or step through them to teleport between games.

  • Games combined: Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, San Andreas
  • Visuals: three live, real-time “windows” shown in the Grove Street area
  • Interaction: shooting and full teleportation through each window
  • Modder’s note on implementation: portals use live GPU textures, with the other game running behind each portal rather than a video playback

How the mod handles gameplay, bullets, and character control

Dryxio says the effect works by running all three games within the same process, with each region maintaining its own physics, traffic, and NPC AI in real time. Each game saves independently, and projectiles can pass through the portals—triggering appropriate reactions from characters and law enforcement as you would expect inside the target world.

When you step through, the transition is described as near-instant and includes a control handoff to the game you’ve entered. In the Vice City example, that means control shifts to the relevant protagonist for that world. A return portal brings you back to the hub afterward.

Portal gun experiments and what this suggests next

Beyond fixed windows, Dryxio also demonstrates using a “portal gun” to reposition the windows anywhere in the environment, letting the portal locations be rearranged. The modder previously experimented with similar ideas—such as making Vice City playable inside San Andreas on a console in CJ’s house—though this new project is positioned as a major upgrade.

While it doesn’t replace the need for GTA 6 on PC, the mod is a striking example of what’s possible when the community pushes far beyond standard teleport tricks—especially given that cross-world shooting and real-time gameplay are part of the same working setup.

What to watch next

Keep an eye on further iterations of Dryxio’s portal system, particularly improvements that expand where portals can be placed, tighten transitions, and continue increasing how seamlessly actions in one GTA game affect another in real time.
