Guabira keeper Ferrel alleges death threats before Always Ready’s 6-0 win
Bolivian authorities are being urged to open an investigation after Guabira goalkeeper Ferrel was allegedly threatened with death before his side’s 6-0 defeat to Always Ready, with claims he was ordered to pay money or deliberately allow three goals.
Ferrel began the matchday 19 game at Estadio Municipal de Villa Ingenio but was substituted before the interval after conceding three times. Always Ready went on to win 6-0, yet the scale of the result has been overshadowed by allegations of extortion and intimidation aimed at the goalkeeper and his family.
Guabira coach Eguez said the player had received threats involving his wife and mother, and argued that the circumstances made a normal assessment of the match impossible. He said Ferrel had been told his relatives would be killed if he did not meet the financial demand or concede three goals, adding that the matter required a full investigation.
Calls for football investigation
The Bolivian Professional Footballers’ Union, known as Fabol, has demanded action from law enforcement, while Always Ready’s legal representatives have also called for the case to be examined.
Fabol general secretary David Paniagua said the allegations involving Guabira’s players could not be left unchecked and insisted Bolivian football needed a firm precedent. Always Ready legal adviser Marcelo Ortiz said the club would request an inquiry from the Public Prosecutor’s Office to safeguard the integrity of the competition.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office and federation integrity officials are expected to begin formal proceedings to establish who was responsible for the alleged scheme and whether the match outcome was affected.
Always Ready remain level on points with league leaders Bolivar in the domestic title fight. Guabira, ninth in the table, now face the task of returning their focus to football while the investigation develops.
