Guirassy Overtakes Lewandowski on Dortmund Champions League Scoring List
Serhou Guirassy moved above Robert Lewandowski in Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League scoring list after firing two goals in a 3-2 win over Villarreal at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old’s double took him to 19 Champions League goals for Dortmund in 25 appearances, overtaking Lewandowski’s 17. Only Marco Reus, with 24, has scored more for BVB in the competition.
Quick facts
- Dortmund beat Villarreal 3-2 in their opening Champions League league-phase match.
- Guirassy scored twice and later suffered an accidental own goal.
- He has now registered 64 goals in 100 competitive Dortmund matches.
- Dortmund host Paderborn this weekend after winning their first two Bundesliga fixtures.
Dortmund went ahead when Villarreal defender Renato Veiga turned the ball into his own net. Santiago Mourino brought the Spanish side level before Guirassy restored control for the home team with a close-range finish.
Guirassy then converted from the penalty spot to make it 3-1, but his eventful evening had one final twist. Gregor Kobel made a late save and the rebound deflected off the striker’s face into the Dortmund net.
The forward had not realised the Villarreal match was his 100th competitive outing for the club. He said reaching that mark and passing Lewandowski was especially meaningful, describing the former Dortmund striker as a great centre-forward.
Guirassy also called it a strange and chaotic contest, admitting Dortmund could have handled moments better while stressing the importance of starting their European campaign with three points.
The Champions League landmark continues a prolific spell since his 2024 arrival from Stuttgart. His 64 goals in 100 matches underline how quickly he has become Dortmund’s leading attacking figure.
Next up is Saturday’s Bundesliga test against Paderborn at Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund have six points from two league games and will aim to protect their perfect domestic start while staying at the top of the table.
