The next chapter of Grand Theft Auto is drawing closer, and July 21 is the date fans will want to remember. With GTA 6 still firmly in the spotlight, Rockstar’s upcoming open-world crime sequel is keeping the conversation moving—but GTA Online has also stayed lively, highlighted by the Kortz Center Heist update and the ongoing energy of the wider community. For players who like their Los Santos moments customized, that momentum is now getting a major boost on PC through a major FiveM upgrade.

Release date and platforms: FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced

Rockstar continues to focus on delivering GTA 6, but the broader GTA ecosystem is already gearing up for what comes next—especially online. A big part of that preparation is FiveM, the well-known multiplayer modification platform that turns GTA 5 into a playground for roleplay communities, creative server builds, and large-scale custom experiences. Now, FiveM is rolling out a performance-focused upgrade meant to improve stability, increase how many players can fit into servers, and set the stage for future expansion.

If you’re planning to jump into roleplaying and other community servers via FiveM, you’ll also want an installation walkthrough—something that’s become increasingly important as the platform evolves and server expectations rise.

FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced arrives in Early Access on July 21

FiveM’s team says FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced will hit Early Access on July 21. The update is built around changes to networking, server performance, scripting workflows, and tooling for developers. The headline improvement targets synchronization: FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced raises the maximum sync rate from 30 updates per second up to as high as 120 updates per second. In practical terms, that’s intended to cut down the gap between what a player does and what other players see, tightening up responsiveness during fast moments.

Server scalability is also a priority. The platform update includes upgraded entity culling, designed to help crowded servers manage players and world objects more efficiently. The goal is to keep busy servers running smoothly while lowering the risk of visible delays that can show up when lots of entities are active at once.

For people running GTA Online roleplay servers—or anyone managing a server in general—there are additional tools aimed at creators. FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced introduces a new Cfx Server system intended to reduce memory requirements by up to 50% in certain situations. The update also expands scripting support, adds more performance tracking, and upgrades the developer toolset. On the capacity front, FiveM is working toward moving past the existing 2,048-player ceiling, with plans for public testing of larger player counts later on.

Players should notice several quality-of-life improvements too. FiveM is adding better installation options, improved cache handling, and more consistent performance. It will also automatically delete outdated server files that previously could accumulate over time and take up storage. Developers get new and expanded monitoring features as well, including additional metrics and fresh performance profiling capabilities, aimed at helping teams maintain large public servers.

Looking ahead, it’s still an open question what the PC version of GTA 6 will look like and what native Online support might include. For now, however, Rockstar’s current focus remains on GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, which means FiveM and GTA 5 Enhanced should remain relevant for a while longer.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.

Which one doesn’t belong?

GTA 6 Online and a PC release are widely expected to be part of the long-term plan, but they’re not the priority right now. That leaves FiveM and GTA 5 Enhanced with plenty of runway before players would need to migrate to a presumed next-gen version. Whether FiveM will play a role in the future of GTA 6 is still unknown, but the ongoing investment suggests the demand for custom GTA experiences isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
