Harry Kane struck twice on his 125th England appearance as Thomas Tuchel’s side signed off their international camp with a 3-0 win over Czechia at Wembley.

The England captain is now level with Peter Shilton as the most-capped player in the history of the men’s national team. His double also pushed his record England goal haul to 91.

Quick facts

  • England beat Czechia 3-0 at Wembley Stadium.
  • Kane scored twice in his 125th international match.
  • The captain matched Peter Shilton’s England appearance record.
  • His tally for England now stands at 91 goals.
  • England have followed their Spain defeat with wins over Croatia and Czechia.

Kane called it a fitting conclusion to a demanding camp, with England ending the window on successive victories after losing their opening match against Spain.

“It was the perfect night for me personally, and for the team,” Kane said. “It has been a tough camp, long camp with some difficult games in there, so it is nice to finish it off all together here at Wembley.”

England’s second goal particularly pleased the skipper. Elliot Anderson found Morgan Rogers in a slick move before Rogers delivered a first-time ball for Kane to finish clinically.

Kane said England’s sharp combination play showed the technical level developing under Tuchel. “You saw some fantastic football out there again: the way we are moving, playing one-touch football,” he said.

“The ball from Elliot to Morgan and then the first-time cross was just as good as it gets. As a striker, you are just licking your lips and waiting for those opportunities.”

The 91-goal forward felt England had taken positives from the Spain loss despite the result, then responded quickly in the fixtures that followed.

“It started in the first game,” Kane said. “Although it was not the result we wanted, I still thought there were some really good bits in there. I feel like we built on that. We had to find it really quickly and we did, so that is the most pleasing thing.”

Kane also pointed to fierce competition across Tuchel’s squad as a key factor in the recent improvement. He said every player must make an impact, whether handed a full match or only a brief substitute appearance.

“Everyone wants to be a part of it, everyone wants to be in the team,” Kane added. “That is only going to make us better.”

England’s next task comes in November, when they complete their Nations League schedule.
