Dejan Kulusevski has returned to full Tottenham training after a 19-month absence with a right patella injury, but he will not be available for Saturday’s match against Aston Villa.

What we know

  • The Sweden international has not played since the end of the 2024-25 season because of the knee problem.
  • The injury also kept the 26-year-old out of the summer World Cup.
  • Kulusevski initially came back in August but suffered a minor setback during his recovery.
  • Head coach Roberto De Zerbi said the midfielder must be handled carefully alongside Tottenham’s medical and fitness staff.
  • De Zerbi described Kulusevski’s eventual return as “a new signing” and said the player deserves the chance to play again.

What happens next

Tottenham will assess Kulusevski day by day through the coming international break. A first-team return could come in October or November if he reaches full condition and clears the final stages of his rehabilitation.
