Kylian Mbappe Set for Real Madrid Return Against Villarreal
Kylian Mbappe has resumed full training with Real Madrid at Valdebebas and is expected to be available for Saturday’s La Liga meeting with Villarreal after a short absence with a knee problem.
The France forward trained with the group on Wednesday and showed no obvious restriction as Madrid prepared for a demanding run of league and European fixtures. Mbappe suffered the injury during France’s UEFA Nations League win over Turkiye, shortly after scoring during the international break.
His return ends a spell dominated by concerns over his fitness and discussion of a brief post-international-break trip to Paris and Switzerland. Madrid will instead focus on getting their leading scorer fully ready for Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid’s decisive attacker returns
Mbappe has scored eight of Real Madrid’s 20 goals this season, accounting for 40 per cent of the side’s total output. Seven of those strikes have come in La Liga, while he also scored in the 2-1 Champions League opening victory over Inter.
He has found the net in five of his eight appearances across all competitions. His strongest displays have come at the Bernabeu, where he struck a hat-trick against Real Sociedad before adding two goals against Rayo Vallecano.
There remains a clear target for improvement away from home. Mbappe did not score in league trips to Real Betis or Atletico Madrid, with Madrid needing him to replicate his home influence on the road.
What happens next
Real Madrid are fourth in La Liga on 15 points, six behind leaders Barcelona. Villarreal visit on Saturday before Sevilla arrive at the Bernabeu, followed by an away Clasico against Barcelona on October 25.
The schedule also includes Champions League matches against Roma and RB Leipzig. Mbappe now has limited time to rebuild match rhythm, but his presence in full training gives Madrid a major boost before a defining stretch of the campaign.
