Barcelona opened their Champions League campaign with a 5-1 demolition of Feyenoord at a rain-hit Camp Nou, with Lamine Yamal setting a new teenage record in the competition.

The 19-year-old Spain international produced two assists before bending home a 77th-minute free-kick. That took him to 21 Champions League goal involvements — 11 goals and 10 assists — moving beyond Kylian Mbappe’s previous teenage mark of 20.

Yamal, aged 19 years and 58 days, also became the youngest player to score directly from a free-kick for a La Liga side in the competition. He moved ahead of the previous benchmarks held by Arda Guler and Sergio Aguero.

Barcelona attack fires again

Raphinha, operating through the middle, struck twice for Barcelona. Summer signings Gabriel Jesus and Karim Adeyemi were also on target, while Sem Steijn scored Feyenoord’s late reply.

  • Raphinha scored twice and urged Yamal on when the teenager appeared frustrated during the match.
  • Gabriel Jesus and Karim Adeyemi registered their first European goals for Barcelona.
  • Yamal’s goal followed a week in which he was named among the 30 Ballon d’Or nominees.
  • Feyenoord leave Camp Nou without a point after conceding five.

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick backed Yamal to win the Ballon d’Or when the award is presented in London next month, saying the youngster has a level of quality few players can match.

Raphinha said he recognised when Yamal was losing concentration because moments were not falling his way, adding that the goal was important for his team-mate.

What happens next

Barcelona have taken their first three Champions League points and have now scored 22 goals in their opening five matches of the new season. Flick praised the squad’s pressing and intensity, but warned there is still plenty to refine over a long campaign.

The immediate focus returns to La Liga. The leaders travel to Levante this weekend, aiming for a fifth straight league win and a stronger hold on top spot.
