Lazio Thrash Juventus 3-0 to Send Gattuso Top of Serie A
Lazio surged to the top of Serie A with a commanding 3-0 win at Juventus, handing Gennaro Gattuso his first managerial victory away to the Bianconeri.
Oliver Provstgaard opened the scoring before Gustav Isaksen and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru completed a statement result in Turin. Lazio’s disciplined display dismantled Juventus and extended the momentum behind a rapid revival under Gattuso.
Gattuso credits squad connection
The Lazio coach said the team’s progress has been built on the relationship between the players and his staff, particularly after a difficult start to the campaign off the pitch.
Summer transfer restrictions and an early Coppa Italia elimination had raised pressure around the club, while supporter demonstrations against the ownership have continued. Yet Lazio have responded with a series of major performances against leading Serie A opponents.
Gattuso said he has changed his approach from his early days in management, learning that modern players require communication as well as firm rules.
“I said I did not want to become a coach because I had been a player,” Gattuso said. “When I saw certain behaviours, I would go home with a stomach ache. I had to work on myself.”
He added that there are only “two or three” non-negotiable standards in his squad, with the rest handled through dialogue with the players.
“Phones and devices are part of their world now, and I have to accept it,” he said. “The things I insist on, they must respect. That is the key.”
Experience abroad shaped Lazio boss
Gattuso believes his time coaching outside Italy helped him understand different personalities and ways of working. He said his task is to speak to players during training and put them in the best possible position to perform.
“Players can give up at the first difficult moment today, so the aim is to make sure they do not give up,” he said.
What happens next: Lazio will attempt to turn their Turin triumph into further domestic momentum as they return to Serie A action, with their collective spirit now carrying them into the next round of fixtures.
