Lewis Hall signs Newcastle contract until 2031 amid Man Utd interest
Lewis Hall has committed his future to Newcastle United by agreeing a new deal running through to the summer of 2031, ending any immediate prospect of a move after Manchester United showed strong interest during the last transfer window.
The 22-year-old full-back chose to stay at St James’ Park after being persuaded by the plans of new head coach Matthias Jaissle. Hall has made an impressive opening to the campaign, scoring in the 2-1 win over Hull City that lifted Newcastle into ninth place in the Premier League.
Hall commits after summer interest

Hall said the talk surrounding United did not affect his concentration. He explained that links with another club can be taken as a positive sign, but stressed that he already knew how much he enjoyed representing Newcastle and understood the new manager’s ambitions.
He said it became an obvious decision to extend once he had spoken with Jaissle and worked under him in training. Hall also pointed to the importance of recruitment and strengthening the group as Newcastle pursue improvement.
Jaissle gives Hall attacking freedom
Hall praised Jaissle’s impact, saying the coach has been “so good” with him. The defender believes he has been given freedom to attack and express himself, provided he fulfils the substantial defensive and running demands of the position.
“I’m happy to do it as long as it benefits the team,” Hall said, adding that Jaissle has made a positive impression on the players who have arrived at the club.
His early-season form has also brought an England recall, having previously missed out on the World Cup squad. Hall will join up with the national team following his goal against Hull.
What happens next
Hall will return to Tyneside after international duty looking to help Newcastle find greater consistency and rise from ninth in the table under Jaissle.
Although the new agreement is a significant commitment from both player and club, Hall said he is not looking too far ahead. He thanked Newcastle’s board and manager for their faith, but said his long-term future will be shaped by whether the side meets its collective targets.
Manchester United did not submit a move after Newcastle’s firm stance, but they are still expected to examine left-back options next summer. Brighton’s Ferdi Kadioglu, Aston Villa’s Ian Maatsen and Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas have all been assessed as possible alternatives.
