Lindelof: Aston Villa United for Crucial Tottenham Clash
Victor Lindelof says Aston Villa’s squad remains united ahead of this weekend’s trip to Tottenham, despite taking only one point from their opening four Premier League matches.
What we know
- Villa are 19th in the table after four games, while Tottenham sit 17th with two points.
- Lindelof expects a demanding match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but says Villa are focused on securing their first league win of the campaign.
- The Sweden captain rejected concerns over the mood in Unai Emery’s dressing room, insisting the group is positive and working towards improvement.
- Villa won both previous away meetings with Spurs last season, in the Premier League and FA Cup.
- Lindelof believes the scrutiny around Villa reflects the club’s higher ambitions after four successive seasons of European qualification.
Villa target a London response
“The mood in the team is good,” Lindelof said. “We haven’t had the start we wanted in terms of points, but we are building towards something good.
“Every Premier League game is difficult, but we are looking forward to the challenge. We want the three points and that would mean a lot for us going forward.”
Villa have started in the relegation zone, an unfamiliar position for a side that has established itself in Europe under Emery. Lindelof said expectation should not be viewed as a burden.
“The pressure and responsibility should always be there,” he said. “We should enter every game trying to win. People expect us to compete because we have performed well, and that is a good thing for this club and this squad.”
The next step is clear: Villa need a result in north London to launch their league campaign. Emery must also manage a packed programme of domestic and continental fixtures, making a return from Spurs with three points especially valuable.
