MachineGames and Bethesda Tease Wolfenstein Tabletop RPG for Fall 2026
MachineGames, Bethesda, and tabletop publisher Modiphius have announced an officially licensed Wolfenstein tabletop RPG, Wolfenstein: The Roleplaying Game, marking the franchise’s next step beyond video games and into the tabletop space. The project is now listed on GameFound, with pledges planned for Fall 2026—while the companies continue to keep quiet about any future mainline Wolfenstein titles.
Fall 2026 crowdfunding for an officially licensed resistance campaign
Wolfenstein: The Roleplaying Game was first announced in March and then appeared on GameFound in early July. It’s positioned as a brand-new tabletop adaptation that lets players create their own resistance fighter and fight back against Nazi forces in Wolfenstein’s alternate-history take on 1960s America.
No specific release date is attached yet, but the crowdfunding window is set for sometime in Fall 2026. That means players who want a new Wolfenstein format will likely have to wait at least through that period for the finished product to move from funding to distribution.
Modiphius’ 2d20 system, plus a high-stakes “prepared to die” twist
Development is being handled by Modiphius Entertainment, a publisher known for tabletop RPGs across multiple licensed universes, including Star Trek, Fallout, Skyrim, and Mass Effect. Modiphius has confirmed that Wolfenstein: The Roleplaying Game will use its “2d20” engine.
In practical terms, the 2d20 approach uses two 20-sided dice at once and compares their results to skill values recorded on a character sheet. While that’s the underlying structure, Modiphius says it’s also building in Wolfenstein-specific mechanics meant to change how fights feel moment to moment.
What Modiphius teased about the system
In an interview published in April, Modiphius lead game designer Evie Moriarty previewed a standout mechanic called “I AM PREPARED TO DIE.” The concept allows a player to fully restore health, refill momentum, and receive an instant upgrade—while accepting a severe cost: the next death becomes permanent.
Modiphius also mentioned a “crisis” mechanic intended to raise the intensity during play, increasing the pressure beyond standard turn-to-turn challenges.
- System: Modiphius’ 2d20 dice-and-skill resolution
- Signature mechanic: “I AM PREPARED TO DIE” trades a powerful recovery for permanent consequence on the next death
- Additional pressure: a “crisis” mechanic meant to escalate encounter difficulty
Why this matters for Wolfenstein fans (even without a new mainline game confirmed)
The announcement lands at a time when many fans have been wondering whether a new mainline Wolfenstein entry is on the way. The franchise has not seen a new mainline release in nearly a decade. In September 2025, a NoClip documentary featuring a MachineGames developer included a statement that the team was “not done” with Wolfenstein, which helped fuel expectations of another video game.
Those hopes have been reinforced by rumors and leaks earlier in the year, including claims that another Wolfenstein game is in development at MachineGames and a report that a casting call was sent out. However, MachineGames and Bethesda have not officially confirmed any new video game in development.
For now, the tabletop project provides the most concrete new product: a formally licensed Wolfenstein experience planned for players to back in Fall 2026, even as the mainline future remains unconfirmed.
Tabletop isn’t new for the franchise—another official adaptation follows
This won’t be Wolfenstein’s first step into tabletop publishing. In 2022, Archon released Wolfenstein: The Board Game, a tabletop dungeon crawler in which players take the role of B.J. Blazkowicz and push through a Nazi-controlled castle with the goal of taking out Hitler himself.
Archon’s board game was directly inspired by MachineGames’ Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. The upcoming tabletop RPG appears positioned to continue that trend—moving from dungeon-crawl board play into a narrative, dice-driven roleplaying format built around Modiphius’ 2d20 framework.
