Man City Use Decoy Bus and Rear Entrance to Reach Anfield
Manchester City reached Anfield through a rear entrance on Arkles Lane on Sunday, avoiding the large Liverpool crowd waiting near the usual team arrival point.
The City buses travelled along Anfield Road under police escort before turning towards the alternative access. A decoy vehicle helped divert thousands of home supporters towards the Anfield Road corner, leaving the squad’s actual arrival largely unseen.
Quick facts
- City used a rear stadium entry via Arkles Lane.
- Police outriders accompanied the team buses.
- Liverpool fans gathered at the expected main arrival area.
- City begin the match top with 15 points from five wins.
- Liverpool are eighth on nine points, unbeaten after two victories and three draws.
The heightened security came as City prepared for their first match after an independent commission ruled that the club had breached financial regulations across nine seasons. City reject the findings and have filed an appeal.
Marc Guehi played down the hostile build-up, insisting Anfield’s intensity is familiar territory. He said every member of the side must provide leadership, with the team’s unity set to be crucial.
The fixture carries added memories of April 2018, when City’s bus was badly damaged outside the ground. There were no physical confrontations around the latest arrival, but the atmosphere inside Anfield is expected to be fierce.
Jamie Carragher said City receive a heated welcome whenever they visit Liverpool and warned that the players and manager would face a difficult afternoon. City must now block out the noise and protect their perfect start, while Liverpool look to turn their unbeaten run into a statement result.
