Manchester United beat Liverpool 1-0 to continue their recovery under Olid, moving level with their opponents on points before the international break.

Zigiotti scored the only goal inside six minutes after Liverpool goalkeeper Khiara Keating sent a clearance straight into danger. The United forward reacted first and lifted a precise effort from outside the box over Keating.

United have taken seven points from their past three matches after a difficult opening to the campaign, which included a heavy loss against Chelsea.

Fast start delivers United victory

Zigiotti said United had targeted an aggressive opening, hoping Liverpool would not be ready for the early intensity.

The home side nearly doubled their advantage before the interval. Jess Park carried the ball from inside her own half before striking from the edge of the area, with her powerful attempt coming back off the crossbar.

Liverpool, despite their strong start to the season, had enough chances to rescue a point. Beata Olsson hooked a free-kick towards the near corner, but Phallon Tullis-Joyce pushed it onto the post.

Tullis-Joyce was again decisive after the break, making a double save to stop Cornelia Kapocs and then Olsson in quick succession. Liverpool continued to press late on, while Jenna Clark headed narrowly wide from close range.

What happens next

Neither side will have an immediate chance to respond, with the international break now beginning. United return to domestic action seeking to extend their momentum, while Liverpool will look to revive a league run that had begun impressively before this defeat.
