Manchester United Reject JJ Gabriel’s Request to End Contract Early
Manchester United have rejected teenage forward Gabriel’s request to be removed from the club’s registration before his contract expires at the end of the season, setting up a potentially difficult stand-off ahead of his 16th birthday on October 6.

Gabriel, who joined United when he was 11, has asked for his current agreement to be terminated. The club have refused, with staff keen to keep hold of a player who featured impressively around the senior group during pre-season.
His route towards a scholarship contract now looks uncertain. Gabriel will become eligible to sign one when he turns 16 next month, but his camp are increasingly unlikely to commit his future to Old Trafford.

There is also interest from within England. Chelsea are leading the domestic pursuit, although their nine-month restriction on registering academy players would prevent an immediate formal move. The teenager would have to wait until January to sign for the Stamford Bridge club.
Representatives are attempting to secure a role around the highly rated prospect as interest grows.
Family concerned by United’s direction
Gabriel’s family believe United have slipped behind elite rivals including Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Their priority is for him to continue his education while developing in what they regard as the strongest possible football environment.
Those concerns have been sharpened by United’s difficult start to the domestic campaign. The club sit 12th after drawing 1-1 with Fulham and have won only one of their first five league matches. Their Carabao Cup elimination has added to the pressure around the club.
United have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson’s exit in 2013, and the current mood at the club has left emerging players seeking clarity over their pathway.
Carrick urges patience
Manager Michael Carrick has called for caution over Gabriel’s situation and urged people around the teenager not to increase the pressure on him.
“He’s a young boy, JJ, and it is important that we do not put too much out there,” Carrick said. “With the exposure and scrutiny involved, you have to be careful, sensible and think about him first and foremost.”
