Moises Caicedo Fined and Given Eight Points Over Licence and Insurance Offences
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has been fined £1,444 and handed eight penalty points after appearing at Crawley magistrates’ court over licence and insurance offences.
The Ecuador international was stopped near Chelsea’s Cobham training ground in April 2025 while driving his £160,000 Audi RSQ8. He was found guilty of driving without a valid licence and without insurance, after the vehicle was seized during the initial incident.
The eight points leave Caicedo four short of the 12-point threshold that brings an automatic six-month driving ban when reached within a three-year period. He has also been told to secure the required paperwork for the Audi, which can reach 155mph and accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds.
Chelsea had described the matter as personal when it emerged last year. The legal outcome arrives during a difficult spell for Caicedo, whose ongoing calf issue has restricted him to only 14 minutes under Xabi Alonso this season.
The 24-year-old was left out of Ecuador’s recent international matches against South Korea, Japan and Panama as he continued his recovery. Chelsea signed Caicedo from Brighton in 2023 for a then-record £115m, and his absence has been felt in midfield despite his limited involvement.
Alonso has sought to calm concerns over the injury, indicating there is no need for alarm and suggesting Caicedo is closing in on a return. Chelsea’s meeting with Bournemouth could offer the midfielder his next chance to feature, provided he is cleared to play.
