Napoli Confirm McTominay’s Successful Heart Procedure and Recovery Plan
Scott McTominay has undergone a successful ablation procedure in Manchester and will rest for two weeks before returning to Napoli training.
The 29-year-old Scotland midfielder travelled to Spire Manchester Hospital on Tuesday for the planned operation after missing recent Napoli squads. The club confirmed there were no complications and said his recovery programme will begin with a fortnight of rest.

McTominay has stressed that the surgery was arranged in advance with Napoli and was not an emergency. His absence had raised concerns among supporters after he was left out of recent selections.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side were already without the midfielder for Saturday’s 3-2 Serie A loss at champions Inter. Napoli are 12th after defeats in two of their opening three league matches, six points behind the early leaders.
The immediate calendar offers little breathing room. Arsenal visit in the Champions League on Wednesday, while McTominay is also expected to be unavailable for Scotland’s Nations League schedule as Sebastien Pocognoli starts his reign as national-team manager.
Contract situation still open
McTominay remains tied to Napoli until 2028, but discussions over an extension have yet to produce an agreement. Sporting director Giovanni Manna said the player had not decided whether to renew, while insisting both sides want to find common ground.
The midfielder joined Napoli in the summer of 2024, ending a 20-year connection with Manchester United. He came through the Old Trafford academy, played 255 times for the first team and helped win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
His first season in Naples ended with a Serie A title and the division’s Player of the Season award. Napoli will now wait for medical clearance before bringing one of Allegri’s key midfielders back into full-contact work.
