Nico Paz Credits Fabregas for Reviving His Career at Como
Nico Paz has credited Cesc Fabregas with transforming his career at Como as the Italian side prepare to face Feyenoord in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Argentine-born midfielder says Fabregas gave him the belief, tactical freedom and regular Serie A football he needed after leaving Real Madrid for Como in 2024.
Paz credits Fabregas for Como rise
Paz arrived in Italy after finding first-team opportunities limited in Madrid. Although he had made a handful of senior appearances for Real, he viewed himself primarily as a Castilla player competing below the top level.
That changed quickly under Fabregas. Paz said his coach had taught him “almost everything” and trusted him from the outset to express himself on the pitch.
“Playing in Serie A helped me develop enormously, as a footballer and as a person,” Paz said. “Cesc believed in me, brought me to Como and gave me freedom from day one. The player I am now is because of him.”
Under the former Spain international, Paz has become one of Serie A’s standout creative talents as Como continue an extraordinary rise into European football.
Champions League breakthrough
Como marked their home Champions League debut with a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig last month, a result that delivered one of the club’s most memorable European nights.
Paz described stepping out at Como’s stadium to the Champions League anthem as a moment the squad will not forget. He said the occasion carried extra weight because Leipzig are established participants in the competition, while most of Como’s players were experiencing the tournament for the first time.
“Every kid wants to play in the Champions League,” Paz said. “For many of us it had never happened before. It was a dream realised and an important step forward.”
What happens next
Como now turn to Wednesday’s meeting with Feyenoord as their Champions League campaign gathers pace. Fabregas’ side will need the same intensity and collective work that powered the Leipzig victory if they are to challenge another experienced European opponent.
