Okan Buruk Promises High-Pressing Galatasaray Approach Against Barcelona
Galatasaray will press Barcelona high and look to attack in Tuesday’s Champions League clash at RAMS Park, with Okan Buruk rejecting the prospect of a cautious, deep-lying approach against the Spanish side.
The Turkish champions host Barcelona on Matchday 2 knowing they face one of Europe’s outstanding early-season teams. Hansi Flick’s men have won each of their first eight La Liga games in 2026/27 and began their European campaign with a 5-1 defeat of Feyenoord.
Buruk accepts the scale of the task but wants his side to meet it head-on in Istanbul. He said Galatasaray must be capable of defending in every area of the pitch, whether near Barcelona’s goal, around midfield or close to their own penalty box, while applying maximum pressure throughout.
The hosts intend to target Barcelona’s passing out from the back and their advanced defensive line rather than simply protect their own area. The atmosphere at RAMS Park is expected to give Galatasaray an additional edge as they chase a result against the Catalan giants.
Galatasaray seek another Barcelona upset
Barcelona have the stronger overall record in this fixture, but Galatasaray retain memories of their 2-1 win over the Blaugrana in November 1994. Buruk said beating Barcelona is exceptionally difficult and made clear that any positive outcome on Tuesday would be warmly received by his side.
Flick’s attack will again be led by Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Dani Olmo as Barcelona attempt to quieten the home support early and extend their perfect start across all competitions.
Gundogan faces former club
Ilkay Gundogan is set for a reunion with Barcelona after joining Galatasaray. The midfielder made 51 appearances for the Catalans during the 2023/24 season before his move to Turkey.
Questions have surrounded the veteran’s place and responsibilities at Galatasaray, but the club insist he is fully concentrated on the visit of his former team.
Barcelona will aim to leave Istanbul with a second straight Champions League victory before switching focus back to domestic football.
