Spain ended the international window with a 2-1 comeback win over Croatia in Split, but Lamine Yamal left the pitch frustrated after failing to score despite another influential display.

Pedri said the Barcelona winger was unhappy with his finishing and carried that disappointment to the bench, underlining the standards the 19-year-old sets for himself.

“He played very well, but his final touch was not as sharp as in other matches,” Pedri said. “He was angry because he missed opportunities, even after a strong performance.”

Yamal still shapes Spain’s attack

Yamal repeatedly drove at Croatia’s defence and helped Spain sustain second-half pressure as they recovered from a deficit to take the three points. Although he did not register a goal, his ability to beat opponents and draw multiple defenders created space for teammates.

Pedri stressed that Yamal’s value is not limited to goals and assists. The midfielder said the forward constantly wants to make a decisive contribution and gives the team another attacking dimension by pulling opponents out of position.

“He demands a lot from himself and always wants to score or help the team,” Pedri added. “Even without a goal or an assist, he contributes hugely because he attracts defenders. He is a different player, and Spain and Barcelona are fortunate to have him.”

Spain look ahead to November

The result in Split gives Spain a timely lift in their Nations League campaign and showed their ability to respond in a difficult away environment. The squad’s mix of experienced players and emerging talent again proved decisive in a match that required resilience.

Spain’s players will now return to club football. Yamal and Pedri resume La Liga and European duties with Barcelona before the next international break.

Spain return to competitive action in Prague against the Czech Republic on Thursday 12 November 2026, before hosting England in Madrid three days later.
