Riot Says Twisted Treeline and Dominion Won’t Return

League of Legends Classic is set to launch with a tight focus on the game’s early timeline, and that has a major consequence for players who have been waiting to return to older side modes. Riot has confirmed that Twisted Treeline—and Dominion—will not be part of the Classic launch or the base game.

What Riot confirmed about Twisted Treeline and Dominion

In response to questions about whether Twisted Treeline would come back for League of Legends Classic, Game Director Brian “FeralPony” Feeney stated that there are currently no non–Summoner’s Rift modes included at launch.

He also clarified that Twisted Treeline’s 5v5 counterpart, Dominion, will not be re-added as part of the Classic rollout or in the standard League client at the start.

Riot’s “likely” path forward for additional modes

While Twisted Treeline and Dominion won’t return immediately, Feeney’s reply left the door open for later additions. He said it’s “highly likely” Riot will bring in additional modes over time.

That means Twisted Treeline could still come back during the League of Legends Classic lifecycle, even if it’s not scheduled for day one.

Where League of Legends Classic fits in Riot’s timeline

League of Legends Classic is described as being “set” in Season 3 (2012). The champion roster is planned to include champions from roughly 2009 through 2013, which aligns Twisted Treeline’s original era with the Classic timeframe.

Twisted Treeline was originally added in 2009, placing it within the broader window Riot is using for Classic’s era-based approach—making its absence at launch more notable for long-time mode fans.

Why Odyssey: Extraction is not coming under the Classic banner

Riot also addressed another returning-mode question: Odyssey: Extraction, a limited-time mode that debuted in 2018. Feeney said Odyssey doesn’t fall under the Classic banner, adding that it would require the modes team for something like that.

So even if Classic expands later, Odyssey: Extraction is not being positioned as part of the Classic plan.
