Sega president Shuji Utsumi has used a recent interview to make Sega’s long-running reputation for game music a clear business priority, calling the studio’s soundtracks “truly amazing” and arguing that only a small number of companies can match that level. Speaking with Famitsu, Utsumi said he wants to build a better listening “environment” so fans can more easily access Sega tracks through mainstream digital services, specifically pointing to platforms like Spotify and Amazon Music.

Utsumi framed the push as both a recognition of Sega’s history in game music and a practical step for reaching wider audiences. He also drew on his background in the broader music industry, noting that he previously served as president of Warner Music Japan and using that experience to support his view of Sega’s catalog. In his comments, he emphasized that Sega’s music is not only appreciated by fans but has significant streaming appeal, citing how game music can stand alongside major popular acts on services like Spotify.

In the same interview, Utsumi suggested that Sega could make its tracks easier to discover by creating curated options—such as lists of Sega songs—to help listeners find what they want faster. He also said Sega is considering broader efforts beyond just releases on streaming platforms, including potential collaborations with other artists and live performance opportunities.
