Shakira and Gerard Pique Attend Barcelona Hearing Over Sons’ Travel
Gerard Pique and Shakira appeared in Barcelona on Tuesday for a private hearing over the travel arrangements for their sons, Milan and Sasha, with the singer seeking changes to the current visitation schedule between Miami and Spain.
The former Barcelona and Manchester United defender and the Colombian singer attended the City of Justice in person as lawyers addressed the impact of repeated transatlantic travel during short school holidays. The proceedings were held behind closed doors, with no outcome announced.
Shakira’s request centres on keeping the boys in Miami for breaks lasting only a few days, rather than requiring them to make long flights to Barcelona and back. Her proposal would see Pique travel to the United States for those shorter visits, sharing the practical burden of maintaining contact across the Atlantic.
Her representatives said the aim was to ensure the journey between Miami and Barcelona is not carried only by the children. Court submissions argued that reducing brief long-haul trips would give Milan and Sasha more time in their normal school, family and social environment.
The application does not seek to cut the time the children spend with their father, but to alter how those visits are organised. Shakira’s position is that the revised routine would better protect the boys’ academic stability and emotional wellbeing, while avoiding jet lag and disruption for short stays.
Miami move remains at centre of dispute
The former couple’s custody agreement, reached in late 2022, permitted Shakira to move with the children to the United States. Milan and Sasha relocated to Miami in April 2023 after growing up in Barcelona.
Shakira has recently been based in Madrid during her tour, but returned to Barcelona for the hearing. She has repeatedly stressed the importance of privacy and stability for her sons following the separation, particularly after the intense public attention surrounding the family in Spain.
For now, the focus is solely on whether the existing visiting regime can be adjusted so Pique’s time with the boys is preserved without requiring frequent short-haul holiday crossings from their US home.
