Spain Extend FIFA Women’s Rankings Lead After Strong US Results
Spain remain top of the FIFA women’s world rankings after an away win and draw against the United States, opening a lead of almost 80 points over the second-placed Americans.
La Roja strengthened their hold on first place during the latest international window, while the United States retained second despite the head-to-head results. Germany are third after winning both of their home friendlies and cutting the distance to the top two.
Denmark back in the top 10
- Denmark climbed two positions to 10th after taking a win and a draw from away matches against Canada. It is their first top-10 ranking since August 2010.
- The Netherlands slipped to 11th, with DPR Korea dropping to 12th as a consequence of Denmark’s rise.
- England stay fourth, ahead of Japan in fifth and France in sixth.
Malawi make historic jump
Malawi produced the biggest movement in the update, rising 49 places to 104th. The Scorchers collected a record 158.44 ranking points after reaching the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final.
That run also delivered Malawi’s first qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, while further Olympic preliminary-round victories added to their surge.
Egypt recorded the sharpest fall, dropping 14 places to 113th after losing all three group-stage fixtures at the continental tournament.
What happens next
National teams now continue their World Cup preparations before the next FIFA rankings release on December 7. That update will provide the final significant movement in the standings before the end of the year.
