UEFA Names Munich and Camp Nou Hosts for 2028 and 2029 Champions League Finals
UEFA has confirmed Munich Football Arena will stage the 2028 Champions League final, with Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou selected for the 2029 showpiece.
What we know
- Munich’s 70,000-seat venue, also known as the Allianz Arena, previously hosted the Champions League finals in 2012 and 2025.
- Camp Nou will host a European Cup final for the first time since 1999, when Manchester United struck twice late on to beat Bayern Munich 2-1.
- Barcelona returned to Camp Nou last November after more than two years away, but redevelopment work remains unfinished. The ground is presently limited to 62,000 spectators.
- The third tier and roof are still to be completed at Camp Nou. Barcelona expect the rebuilt stadium to reach its planned 105,000 capacity late in 2027, or no later than 2028.
- This season’s Champions League final will be played at Atlético Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium.
- UEFA also allocated other major finals: Lyon will host the 2028 Women’s Champions League final and Cardiff the 2029 edition; Bucharest and Belgrade will stage the 2028 and 2029 Europa League finals; Turin and Budapest have the corresponding Conference League finals.
What happens next
Barcelona must complete the remaining Camp Nou construction in time for the 2029 final. UEFA has also named Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena as host of the 2027 Super Cup, while Astana Arena will stage the 2028 match.
