Ratchet and Clank has been quiet for a while on the new-release front, but the series is preparing for another big step forward. While it may not be the direct sequel many longtime fans hoped for, Ratchet and Clank: Ranger Rumble aims to deliver the franchise’s signature mix of weapons, jokes, and high-speed chaos—now for a wider audience.

Instead of revisiting an older chapter, Ratchet and Clank: Ranger Rumble is built as a free-to-play multiplayer hero shooter. The premise centers on Captain Qwark’s newest “brilliant” plan, which immediately spirals in the way you’d expect from him. Battles take place inside a simulation meant to train the next batch of Galactic Rangers, with players selecting from a roster of heroes whose abilities, gear, and playstyles are designed to feel distinct.

On top of the new game news, there’s also a fresh piece of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart context: a hidden Easter egg has been surfaced more than four years after the game’s launch.

Ratchet and Clank: Ranger Rumble is a Free-to-Play Hero Shooter

Developer Oh Bibi has opened worldwide pre-registration for Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble on iOS and Android. The rollout follows earlier regional testing that took place in Canada, the Nordics, France, and select parts of Asia.

To mark the global pre-registration push, the team is running a community rewards initiative. Players can unlock bonuses based on the total number of pre-registrations, with the campaign culminating in an exclusive Clank Suit cosmetic. That cosmetic is tied to the new Ratchet and Clank Lombax hero, Widget, if the final target is hit.

Quick facts

  • Platforms: iOS and Android
  • Model: free-to-play multiplayer hero shooter
  • Pre-registration: worldwide, with community milestones and rewards
  • Heroes at launch: 12 playable options
  • Game modes: 6 modes, including PvP, co-op PvE, and other twists
  • Noted focus: keeping the series’ humor, weapons, action, and early-game musical inspiration

At launch, Ranger Rumble will offer 12 playable heroes. The lineup includes new Lombaxes, plus robots and aliens created specifically for this entry through collaboration with Insomniac Games.

The game also launches with 6 game modes. Expect the basics—team-based PvP and co-op PvE—alongside more unusual concepts, including a mode inspired by battle royale structure and another that takes a football-like approach. Both are positioned as chaotic experiences meant to match the series’ energy.

Even with the shift to mobile, Oh Bibi says protecting the feel of Ratchet and Clank remains a top priority. That includes returning the series’ trademark humor, inventive weaponry, over-the-top action, and musical inspiration drawn from the earliest games in the franchise. At the same time, the developers are introducing new faces that belong naturally in the universe, with help from Insomniac Games on the new Lombaxes and their backstories.

Pre-registration isn’t just about early access vibes—it also ties directly into community progress. Anyone who signs up will automatically qualify for every community milestone that unlocks before the game launches, and they’ll receive in-game currencies such as Qredits, Reebos, and Raritanium. Those resources are intended to help players kick-start their progression once Ranger Rumble releases.

With worldwide pre-registration now live and months of player testing already completed, Ratchet and Clank: Ranger Rumble appears to be moving into the final phase before its global debut.
