CD Projekt RED Confirms The Witcher 4 Launch in 2028 at Gamescom

CD Projekt RED has now set an official release window for action RPG The Witcher 4. In a new Gamescom-focused video, the company confirmed that the next entry will arrive in 2028, putting a concrete year on the studio’s long-awaited continuation of the series as players step into Ciri.

In the footage, co-CEO Michał Nowakowski invites viewers to watch Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2026. The video also highlights what can be seen during the event: viewers will get a look at Songs of the Past, described as the new expansion for The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. CD Projekt RED says the presentation will cover parts of the expansion’s “dark story” and outline the new gameplay content included with the DLC.

During CD Projekt RED’s Gamescom streams, the team promises there will be “a surprise or two,” though it does not specify what those surprises will be. The same video makes clear that The Witcher 4 itself will not be shown during the Gamescom conference. CD Projekt RED instead reiterated that development is already underway at full scale, noting that more than 500 people are working on The Witcher 4.

The co-CEO also addressed the timeline directly, stating that the team can confirm the release year is 2028. While acknowledging the wait is still long, the message emphasizes that the studio needs that time to finish development properly. CD Projekt RED further frames The Witcher 4 as a major opportunity to rebuild trust after the problematic launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
