Como Give VIP Seats to Long-Serving Fans for Champions League Debut
Como officials, led by Mirwan Suwarso, have surrendered their VIP seats for the club’s Champions League home match, with the places set aside for supporters born in 1950 or earlier.
The move comes with Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia sold out and demand far beyond the reduced allocation available for European fixtures. Como’s directors have chosen to reward fans who followed the club through bankruptcy, amateur football and years outside Italy’s top flight.
Executive seats handed to long-serving supporters
- Como confirmed that board members and club officials will not use their executive-section places for the Champions League tie.
- The seats will be offered to supporters born in 1950 or before, targeting the oldest generation of the club’s fanbase.
- Suwarso said the stadium cannot meet the demand created by the limited ticket supply, but stressed that the released places should go to those who have supported Como across every era and division.
Como’s rapid climb from the lower levels of the Italian pyramid to Champions League football has been backed by the Djarum Group, alongside an increased focus on growing the club’s international profile. The hierarchy has also sought to recognise the local supporters who kept the club alive during its difficult periods.
UEFA limit cuts Sinigaglia attendance
Summer work at the lakeside stadium was designed to bring it up to UEFA standards. The Curva Ovest was completely rebuilt, while the playing surface was relaid and widened. Floodlights, media areas and hospitality facilities were also upgraded.
Even after the renovation, Como will be able to admit fewer fans for Champions League games than for Serie A matches. Domestic fixtures can draw more than 12,000 spectators, but UEFA has restricted the European capacity to around 11,000.
The main issue is the Distinti area, where tubular structures do not satisfy UEFA’s required safety and comfort criteria for continental competition.
German test awaits inexperienced Como squad
Como now face a German opponent packed with quality and regularly involved in the latter stages of the Champions League. Only nine players in the Como squad have previous experience in the competition.
Nico Paz has generated growing excitement with his form, while Moise Kean could be selected from the start after making an early impression in the domestic campaign. Baturina and Chalobah are expected to provide experience in a side hoping its home support can drive an upset against the German visitors.
