Darren Fletcher Confronts Fan After Man Utd's Sabah Win

Darren Fletcher confronted a Manchester United supporter outside Old Trafford after abuse was aimed at players leaving the stadium following Thursday’s 4-0 Champions League win over Sabah.

The United Under-18s head coach, 42, moved towards the fan after a number of first-team players went straight past those waiting near the team buses. Fletcher told the supporter that such language was unacceptable.

The former United midfielder then pointed at the individual and said their behaviour was why players choose not to sign for supporters. Fans standing nearby backed Fletcher, cheering him as he walked away and chanting “legend, legend”.

The incident came amid growing frustration around Old Trafford over professional autograph hunters. Players have become increasingly reluctant to stop after matches, with signed items often collected in bulk and sold on for profit.

United’s stance contrasts with an earlier dressing-room culture under Sir Alex Ferguson, who was known to demand that his squad acknowledge waiting supporters. Patrice Evra has previously recalled Ferguson criticising players for failing to engage with fans during a pre-season trip.

On the pitch, there was little trouble for United against the Azerbaijani newcomers. Cunha opened the scoring before Fernandes and Sesko put the hosts in complete control before the break, with Martinez completing the scoring later on.
