GameStop $4.99 Used Batman: Arkham Asylum Surprise

A GameStop shopper paid just $4.99 for a used Xbox 360 copy of Batman: Arkham Asylum—and found something that appears to go beyond a normal retailer “surprise deal.” The receipt-level bargain has sparked discussion online, with other buyers claiming they’ve turned up rare signed copies of popular games at the same stores.

What happened with the $4.99 Batman: Arkham Asylum purchase

Reddit user Jmac1441 reported buying a pre-owned copy of Batman: Arkham Asylum on Xbox 360 for $4.99 at GameStop. In addition to getting an extremely low price, the copy reportedly appears to be autographed by Kevin Conroy.

Conroy is widely known as the voice of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series, and he also voices Batman across the Arkham trilogy and other projects. He died in 2022, which is part of what makes the alleged signature notable to collectors and retro players.

Other reported signed finds at GameStop

The post drew more examples from other shoppers, with several commenters describing similarly low-priced used games that also carried signatures.

One user claimed to find a Devil May Cry game signed by Johnny Yong Bosch, identified as the voice actor for Nero.
Another reported finding the original Gears of War on Xbox 360 priced at $4.99, signed by Carlos Ferro, described as the voice actor for Dominic “Dom” Santiago.

Ferro is also set to reprise his role as Dom in Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel game launching on PC and Xbox Series X/S this October.

Why GameStop’s physical game business may be shrinking

The next PlayStation console, PS6, is expected to be digital-only, and the next-generation Xbox is also expected to move to a digital-only model.

With that shift, GameStop’s used-game sales could become more constrained—limited to the Switch 2 and older consoles—while the broader market continues moving toward digital distribution.

GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen has downplayed the importance of physical video game sales to the retailer’s current revenue stream.
