Getafe Close In on Free-Agent Dani Carvajal After Real Madrid Exit
Getafe are advancing talks to sign free-agent right-back Dani Carvajal, with a medical expected to be the decisive next step before any agreement can be completed.
The 34-year-old has been unattached since his Real Madrid contract expired on 30 June. Discussions are moving in a positive direction and a move across the Spanish capital is now the likeliest outcome, despite recent links with clubs in Serie A.
Medical key to proposed deal
Carvajal’s fitness will be closely assessed before he can put pen to paper. The six-time European champion has dealt with a number of injury problems during his career, making the examination a major condition of Getafe’s proposed signing.
Should he pass the checks and the remaining contract details be settled, an official announcement could follow quickly. Carvajal would return to Liga in a different shirt after several months without a club.
Why Getafe want another right-back
José Bordalás has called for greater depth as Getafe face commitments in Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Conference League. The club are currently 11th in the league table with eight points from their first seven matches.
Getafe already have two specialist right-backs in the squad, although their options have been affected by injury. Andrés García is at the club on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, while Kiko Femenía has been out since early September after tearing the hamstring in his left leg.
Carvajal would offer Bordalás a seasoned alternative on the right of defence, bringing extensive experience from his trophy-filled spell at the Santiago Bernabéu. Negotiations are continuing as Getafe work to turn the talks into a completed free transfer.
