Huijsen reflects on Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Sevilla
Dean Huijsen completed the full 90 minutes as Real Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the defender now targeting another strong home display against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
Madrid controlled possession and spent long periods in Sevilla territory, while Huijsen helped keep the visitors’ attack quiet for most of the match. Sevilla’s only goal arrived late after a loose turnover, but it did not threaten a comfortable home victory.
The result also keeps Real Madrid’s unbeaten record at the Bernabeu intact in all competitions.
Huijsen highlights Madrid control
- Huijsen said Madrid’s work on the ball set the platform for the win, praising the side’s distribution and defensive organisation.
- The centre-back identified the turnover as the decisive factor behind Sevilla’s late consolation goal.
- He stressed that Madrid had defended as a united team and had largely prevented Sevilla from creating chances.
- Huijsen also hailed the attacking quality on show after goals from Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe and Diomande, joking that he could not produce finishes of that kind himself.
“Everybody can see the quality they have, and we are delighted they are in our squad,” Huijsen said.
Champions League test next
Madrid return to European action on Wednesday when RB Leipzig visit the Bernabeu. The Spanish side will seek to preserve their perfect Champions League group-stage record, while Huijsen is aiming for a clean sheet.
The defender also underlined the value of playing in Madrid, calling the Bernabeu a historic and special stadium. With European fixtures arriving quickly, Huijsen’s immediate focus is on maintaining his own form and helping the team continue its home run.
