Joao Pedro Wins Chelsea Player of the Month Award After Fast August Start
Joao Pedro has been named Chelsea’s Player of the Month for August after opening the campaign with two goals and two assists in three matches.
The Brazilian forward edged team-mate Cole Palmer for the award, underlining his fast start and growing importance in Chelsea’s attacking plans. Pedro has also committed his future to the club on a contract that runs until 2034.
Pedro’s rise at Chelsea
Coach Xabi Alonso believes Pedro belongs among the Premier League’s leading strikers alongside Erling Haaland, who won last season’s Golden Boot with 27 goals.
Alonso sees a broader attacking profile in Pedro than a conventional penalty-area finisher. The Chelsea boss highlighted the 23-year-old’s experience in midfield, as a No. 10 and on the wing, as well as his ability to operate both inside and outside the box.
He also compared elements of Pedro’s game to Karim Benzema, citing his intelligence, aerial ability, movement to the left and all-round influence. Alonso said there remain areas for the forward to improve, but described his qualities as exceptional.

Alonso said the Brazil omission had already provided Pedro with sufficient drive and that no extra intervention was needed. He added that the forward has shown maturity, personality and a clear target for the season: a strong campaign with plenty of goals.
