West Ham Hit Wrexham for Six in Record Hollywood Era Defeat
Wrexham suffered their worst defeat of the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney era as West Ham swept them aside 6-0 at London Stadium, a result that sent the Hammers top of the Championship before the weekend programme.
The loss was heavier than Wrexham’s previous biggest reverse since the 2021 takeover, when they were beaten 5-0 by Stockport County in September 2023. It also came before a record crowd for a Wrexham match: 59,712 spectators.
West Ham take control after early Wrexham resistance

- Valentín Castellanos, Mohamadou Kante and Manor Solomon completed the 6-0 rout for the hosts.
Parkinson accepted responsibility after the final whistle, describing it as an extremely difficult evening and saying he would review his own decisions. He felt Wrexham had been in the contest early on, but said poor defending in two key moments changed the momentum before the third goal finished their hopes.
The manager also pointed to the scale of the opposition, calling West Ham a multi-million-pound attacking unit with the quality expected of a Premier League club.
Record crowd, but a painful landmark
The 59,712 attendance overtook Wrexham’s former record of 54,096, set in the FA Cup tie against Liverpool at Anfield in January 1970. But the landmark occasion ended in a sobering lesson for a club now adapting to Championship football after three successive promotions.
Wrexham had reached the second tier this season following that remarkable rise, but their difficult start has continued. After narrowly missing out on the play-offs last term, they have won only one of their opening seven Championship matches and sit nearer the relegation places than the top six.
West Ham, relegated from the Premier League last season, recorded their biggest victory since September 2018. The result strengthens their early case for an immediate return to the top flight.

Parkinson must now steady Wrexham quickly, with defensive improvement the immediate priority as the Welsh club look to put their record defeat behind them and move clear of danger in the Championship.
