Jordan Henderson stars with two goals as Chelsea thrash Bournemouth 5-1
Jordan Henderson marked his Chelsea home debut with two goals and an assist as the Blues swept Bournemouth aside 5-1 at Stamford Bridge, delivering their first Premier League win in four matches.
The 36-year-old midfielder struck inside two minutes after Cole Palmer set up the move, finishing after the ball came back off the post. Henderson then completed his standout afternoon with Chelsea’s fifth goal, curling in a free-kick he had worked on during the international break.

Henderson arrived in the summer after his Brentford contract was ended by mutual agreement, signing a two-year Chelsea deal. His early influence gave Alonso’s side the fast start they needed after a difficult recent run.
Alonso said Henderson had used the international break to sharpen his set-piece work, with the late free-kick providing the evidence. The Chelsea boss also highlighted the midfielder’s growing understanding with Moises Caicedo.
“We have seen Moises Caicedo alongside Hendo,” Alonso said. “When you have balance and strength in midfield, the whole team looks in better condition.”
Bournemouth briefly threatened to turn the contest after Evanilson scored, with Alonso admitting there was a 10-minute spell following the concession when the margin could have become tighter. Chelsea’s fourth goal ended that danger and allowed the hosts to pull clear.
Alonso rejected the idea that Chelsea have a major defensive issue despite the continuing clean-sheet drought. “It will arrive,” he said of a shutout. “We were close today. A win with a clean sheet will come.”
Palmer’s assist came shortly after Chelsea confirmed his new long-term contract, which runs until 2034. Alonso believes the England forward can become a defining player for the club over the coming years.
“I am delighted for Cole,” Alonso said. “He is a top player, and we have him for many years. He can be remembered for a long time in the future.”
