Manchester United set unwanted European record after Nico Paz strikes for Como
Manchester United have become the first English club to concede inside the opening two minutes of successive major European matches after Nico Paz struck for Como in the second minute.
What we know
- United had also conceded in the opening minute of their previous European game against Atletico Madrid.
- Paz gave Como the lead with a curling effort from the edge of the box after being afforded too much space.
- Michael Carrick’s team have now kept only one clean sheet in their past 11 matches in all competitions this season.
- That sole shutout came against Azerbaijan’s Sabah FK.
- Matthijs de Ligt returned to the starting side for the first time since November after back surgery, but United again struggled defensively against Como.
- Supporters have described the side as “devoid of confidence” as the early concessions continue.
What happens next
Carrick must find an immediate response from his defence before Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Bournemouth on 25 October. Como are scheduled to face Sassuolo in Serie A a day earlier.
