Munich and Barcelona confirmed as 2028 and 2029 Champions League final hosts
UEFA has confirmed Munich’s Football Arena as the host of the 2028 Champions League final, with Barcelona’s redeveloped Spotify Camp Nou selected for the 2029 showpiece.
Munich will welcome Europe’s biggest club fixture for the third time, after staging the 2012 and 2025 finals. The 70,000-seat stadium is already in place for its next assignment.
Barcelona’s appointment carries extra significance. Camp Nou will host a European Cup final for the first time in 30 years when it takes the 2029 match. Its previous final, in 1999, produced Manchester United’s famous 2-1 comeback against Bayern Munich, sealed by two late goals.
The Catalan ground is still being rebuilt after work began in 2023. Barcelona returned to the stadium in November following two years away, but building work continues, with the third tier unfinished and the roof yet to be installed. Capacity is currently restricted to 62,000, while the completed venue is planned to hold 105,000. The club expects the project to be finished late in 2027 or, at the latest, early in 2028.
European final venues confirmed
UEFA has also set the locations for its other major finals over the next two seasons. The 2028 Women’s Champions League final will be held at Parc Olympic Lyonnais in France, before Cardiff’s National Stadium of Wales takes the 2029 edition.
Bucharest’s National Arena has been awarded the 2028 Europa League final, while Belgrade’s National Stadium Serbia will host the 2029 final. Juventus Stadium in Turin will stage the 2028 Conference League final, followed by Budapest’s Puskas Arena in 2029.
The next Champions League final remains scheduled for Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium in the Spanish capital. UEFA has also named Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena as the venue for the 2027 Super Cup, with Astana Arena in Kazakhstan set to host the 2028 match.
