Palworld 1.0: Best Coal Spots for Crafting Refined Ingots and Pal Spheres
Coal is a key mid-game ingredient in Palworld 1.0, required to craft Refined Ingots—which in turn are used for tier 3 to 5 Pal Spheres. With the full release, resource spawns were rebalanced, so the fastest route to coal near the starting area has shifted from earlier versions. Here are the practical locations and options for getting coal quickly, including where to farm nodes, how dungeon coal works, and how to set up a base mine.
Release timing and availability
Palworld 1.0 is already live, and the coal changes described here are tied to that full release’s resource rebalance—meaning coal node positions and the order resources appear can differ from pre-1.0 play. Dungeon coal also follows a specific in-game timing cycle (dungeons vanish after a few hours and then return later), so your route effectiveness depends on when you’re farming.
| Method | Status / Behavior | In-game timing details |
|---|---|---|
| Overworld coal nodes near spawn | Available as reachable farming spots | No special timer noted |
| Dungeon coal nodes | Dungeons with coal appear, then disappear | Disappear after a few in-game hours; respawn after 3 to 6 in-game days; internal resources may change |
| Twilight Dunes coal formation | Coal-rich area near a boss spawn | No special timer noted |
| In-base Coal Mine technology | Player-built production source | Produces coal continuously after construction (see production estimate below) |
Fastest coal near the starting zone (Hill of the Beginnings)
The closest coal node to the Hill of the Beginnings is described as being north of the Azurobe Boss spawn. From there, continue further north from the Rayne Syndicate Tower.
In this area, the nearby Pals are in the level 30 to 35 range, making it possible to work around them rather than fight everything to reach a sand patch with lots of coal nodes to farm.
A bit south of the main position, there are two hills with a small number of nodes. Those hills also include dungeons that contain coal—a more involved option if you’re willing to clear dungeon content.
Dungeon coal farming cycle (what to expect)
- Dungeons disappear after a few in-game hours.
- Dungeons respawn after 3 to 6 in-game days.
- Resources inside may change when the dungeon returns, so the coal layout isn’t guaranteed to be identical every time.
Extra coal: Twilight Dunes (above Anubis Boss Spawn)
If you need more coal than the nearby node route provides, Twilight Dunes (just above Anubis Boss Spawn) has a formation filled with coal.
This zone also has additional coal beyond the main formation, but the guidance recommends bringing a Pal of at least level 40 before pushing into Twilight Dunes.
Set up your own coal production with a Coal Mine
For a longer-term setup, you can build coal production inside your base by unlocking the Coal Mine technology. The requirements listed are:
- 5 Ancient Technology Points to unlock
- 70 Stone
- 100 Coal
- 30 Paldium Fragments
- 10 Ancient Civilization Parts
With a small mining team, the article gives a production estimate: building one or two mines and assigning a mining Pal like Anubis (and using Sekhmet in the base if present, with its passive activated) is calculated to yield an average of 200 to 300 Coal every 10 in-game minutes—based on a setup of 3 Anubis with maximum Mining Suitability plus a Sekhmet.
Player impact: why these coal routes matter in 1.0
Because Refined Ingots gate tier 3 to 5 Pal Spheres, coal availability directly affects how quickly you can progress during the level 30 to 50 window. The 1.0 resource rebalance means that even if you know where coal was earlier, your “fast route” may now start from a different direction—so the north-of-Azurobe approach and the Twilight Dunes option are aimed at minimizing wasted travel.
Open questions for players
Two practical unknowns remain for any individual run: (1) dungeon contents can change when they respawn, so your coal yield may vary over time, and (2) the best mining-pal setup for your base may differ depending on what you’ve captured—especially if you don’t have Anubis and Sekhmet available yet.
