Real Madrid Eye Haaland as Man City Charge Fallout Looms

Reports of Manchester City being found guilty on most Premier League financial charges have intensified speculation around the futures of Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki and Josko Gvardiol, with Real Madrid monitoring the potential market fallout.

Haaland remains under a long City contract, but any punishment threatening the club’s top-flight position could force major decisions over expensive players. Madrid have admired the Norway striker for years and explored a move before he joined City in 2022.

Madrid have also repeatedly tracked Cherki, whose technical quality and creative style have made him a long-standing target. Yet he faces the same obstacle: Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and Brahim Diaz are among the players already competing for creative roles.

Gvardiol is also viewed as a possible long-term answer at centre-back. Madrid have faced injury-related problems and inconsistency in that area this season, and the Croatia international was linked with the Spanish side during the latest summer window.

City, however, secured Gvardiol’s commitment with a new deal until 2031, making any immediate move hard to envisage. What happens next will depend on the scale of any sanction and whether it prompts City to reshape their squad or financial plans.
